Dr. Shu-Yi Scott

Cello Teacher and Teacher Trainer

Shu-Yi Scott, originally from Taipei, Taiwan, has given master classes, seminars and performances in the States, Taipei, Shanghai, Mexico, Europe and online. 


Dr. Shu-Yi Scott holds a MM in cello performance from Penn State University under Dr. Kim Cook and DMA in cello performance from the University of Texas at Austin under renowned pedagogue Ms. Phyllis Young .

Dr. Scott was awarded the Certificate of Achievement through the Suzuki Association of the Americas in 2015 and became a registered Suzuki cello teacher trainer in 2019.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Shu-Yi has given more than 50 online courses for teachers, students and parents. Adapting quickly to the shift to online teaching, Shu-Yi offered pedagogy courses to help other teachers and institutions transition, and even offered summer camps for her own studio. With recent vaccinations and precautions, Dr. Scott is now teaching and coaching in person and online, reaching teachers, parents and students worldwide.

Teaching beginning students from the age of 3 to advanced high school cellists, her expertise and patience helps students from all musical backgrounds excel.  She uses her knowledge of child development to creatively target the needs of her students, keeping them motivated and growing.  Her private lessons, group class offerings, and parent education nights help to foster a community of  lifelong musicians.

Her hobbies include baking, learning Japanese Language and Tea ceremony, French, and world travel. She lives in Austin, Texas with her bass player husband and homeschools her daughters Euna, and Lydie, who both play the cello.
